Andhra Pradesh High Court gets new Chief Justice New Delhi: Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta was on Monday elevated as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. He was currently a judge in the Uttarakhand High Court. Justice Sengupta (60) was appointed as a permanent judge of the Calcutta High Court in July 1997 and assumed charge as the acting Chief Justice in October 2012.



He was transferred to the Uttarakhand High Court at Nainital in October 2012. Meanwhile, the strength of the Gauhati High Court rose to 18 with the appointment of three additional judges. It has an approved strength of 24 judges. A Law Ministry statement said that Nishitendu Chaudhury, Lanusungkum Jamir and Manash Ranjan Pathak have been appointed as additional judges of the Gauhati High Court for a period of two years.
