
Chennai: A drunk truck-driver who lured away and raped a five-year-old girl in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore town has been arrested, police said on Saturday. According to police, the incident took place May 12, 2013, when 25-year-old K Saravanan was cleaning the vehicle near house of the girl, whose parents had gone out on work.
He took the girl playing outside her home to his house nearby and sexually assaulted her, police said. Returning from work, the girl's mother saw her daughter in severe pain and took her to a doctor who diagnosed what had happened.
On the mother's complaint with the women's police station, Saravanan was arrested from his house in the outskirts of Coimbatore, around 500 km from Chennai. According to police, the accused has been sent to judicial custody. A police official told IANS that the accused said he committed the act in a drunken state.
