New Delhi: According to latest developments in the spot-fixing scandal that came back to haunt the IPL, one of the eight bookies arrested by Delhi Police, Jiju Janardhanan, has turned out to be the cousin of Rajasthan Royals' bowler S Sreesanth who along with team-mates Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila was also arrested earlier on Thursday.
Investigations done so far by the police have revealed Janardhanan was also an under-22 Gujarat player but turned to cricket betting and was now operating as a bookie.
BCCI has already suspended the three Rajasthan players pending inquiry by its Disciplinary Committee, while Delhi Police has brought them to Delhi for further interrogation. The players have been arrested under sections 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.
The arrest took place immediately after the players returned to their team hotel, following their match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede stadium on Thursday. The hosts won by 14 runs. Delhi police sources also said that these players were under the scanner for their role in spot-fixing in some of the earlier IPL matches, although they did not elaborate which matches were under scrutiny....
