
New Delhi: After the Karkardooma court acquitted Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, All India Sikhs Students Federation President Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad hurled a shoe at the judge inside the courtroom. Karnail Singh was later arrested.
His lawyer said that he hurled the shoe not with the intention to hit the judge, but to express his anger against the judiciary. He added that Karnail Singh was ready to face the consequences.
The acquittal of Sajjan Kumar resulted in protests outside the trial court. A shoe was also thrown at the judge inside the court reportedly. "If Sajjan can't be hanged, then I should be hanged," said Jagdish Kaur, a witness and petitioner in the case.
Sajjan Kumar has been acquitted of all charges in a case relating to the anti-Sikh riots. The case relates to the murder of five Sikhs in the Raj Nagar area of Delhi Cantonment on November 1, 1984 following the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards....
