
Bangalore: The use of the deadly pesticide, Endosulfan, is causing diseases like cancer and asthma, especially in the states like Karnataka and Kerala. While the Kerala government has already identified 4300 victims and is compensating them, Karnataka has still not woken up to their woes.
Gracy D'Souza has slowly given up her dream to see her son Santosh healthy and able to walk. The 21-year-old who is mentally disabled is bed-ridden due to arthritis and asthma, all because of the deadly pesticide Endosulfan, whose spraying has affected others in Dakshina Kannada district of karnataka too. Ailments caused by the pesticide include cancer, asthma, brain damage and impotency.
Till the year, 2000 helicopters would fly here spraying this harmful pesticide across the region and even after 12 years you can still see the after effects of this harmful pesticide called Endosulfan.
My main worry is who will look after my boy after we are gone? The state government should give us better compensation otherwise what will happen to us? says DSouza....
