Chennai: Will new Chepauk galleries be unsealed for IPL? CHENNAI: Will the Corporation seal on the two additional galleries built without plan and building approval at the Chepauk stadium be removed to facilitate an increase in seating capacity for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament?Well, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) is hopeful of getting plan approval for the structures from the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) when its Multi-Storey Building (MSB) panel meets on Friday. TNCA would have to get building approval from the Corporation next if the seal has to be removed. While CMDA sources said the MSB panel, comprising officials from various departments like fire service and traffic, would discuss the issue in detail before submitting its recommendation to the government, the State Minister for Housing and Urban Development told Express on Thursday that the government was likely to give the necessary permission for the galleries.The ready-to-use galleries, which were sealed in October last year as they did not have building approval, came up when the TNCA embarked on modernisation and redevelopment of the 40-year-old M A Chidambaram Stadium in 2009 with a view to adhering to the stringent conditions laid down by the International Cricket Council for stadiums hosting international matches.
