Kolkata: Two cargo vessels were badly damaged after colliding head-on in Nurpur in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal at about 11.30 AM on Tuesday.
Reports say there have been no casualties but the crew was still on board both the ships. The ships are reportedly sinking. The Indian Coast Guard has launched a rescue operation.
The two ships - Green Valley and Tigers Singh - collided in Nurpur, near the confluence of Hooghly and Rupnarayan rivers and the Bay of Bengal.
"There is neither any casualty nor any oil leak due to the collision which, however, caused damage to both the vessels," Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) chairman ML Meena said....more
