
Ahmedabad: 72 hours after the IPL spot-fixing scandal broke, investigations and raids are spreading outside Delhi and Mumbai. While Delhi and Mumbai figure prominently in the IPL spot-fixing case, a majority of bookies and fixers arrested are from Gujarat.
Delhi Police are now on the lookout for bookie Jitu, who is said to have played a major role. Delhi Police teams are in Rajkot, Banaskantha and Ahmedabad, with the aim of cracking his network, which is spread across several districts.
But that's not the only Gujarat connection. Jiju Janardhan and Amit Singh, the two former players turned middlemen, have both played for Gujarat. Amit Singh played for the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) before joining Rajasthan Royals while Jiju was a member in the Gujarat Under-19 and Under-22 teams.
Sources say that earlier in 2013, the Intelligence Bureau had provided the Gujarat Police with a list of 36 bookies, some of whom were possibly in touch with fixers and players. The Gujarat Police clearly did not act on this intelligence input....
