WB: One drowns, six missing in boat capsize Konnagar: One woman drowned and six others, including a two year-old, are reported missing after a country boat capsized on Saturday in Hooghly River near a ghat in Konnagar.

Police said the boat with about 19 pilgrims and oarsmen was on way from Sukhchar in North 24 Parganas district to here when it capsized near the Baro Madirtala ghat.

The pilgrims were bound for Shakuntala Kalibari at Konnagar in Hooghly district.

Locals immediately jumped into the river and rescued 12 pilgrims, the police said....more

Cargo ships collide in Hooghly, no casualty Kolkata: Two cargo vessels were badly damaged after colliding head-on in Nurpur in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal at about 11.30 AM on Tuesday.
