
Hyderabad: Alleged preferential treatment to the VIPs lodged at the Chanchalguda central prison and their family members by the prison superintendent K Kesava Naidu led to his transfer here on Monday. Though the exercise is being described as "routine" by the prison top brass, sources said Naidu was transferred after he allegedly allowed some prisoners more 'mulaqats' than rules permitted.
Naidu has been transferred to the State Institute of Correctional Administration (SICA), located on the premises of the headquarters of the prisons department in Chanchalguda as its chief principal. On Monday, authorities of the AP Prisons Department received the orders from the jails minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy. "The authorities will formally send the transfer orders to Naidu on Tuesday," a senior prisons official told Express. B Saidaiah, superintendent of the Warangal Central Prison, will replace Naidu as the superintendent of the central prison.
There are 10 high-profile prisoners lodged in the Cherlapally prison including Jagan Mohan Reddy, Mopidevi Venkataramana, suspended IAS officer BP Acharya and industrialist Nimagadda Prasad among others. According to top sources, Naidu had reportedly been giving more mulaqats to special-class prisoners including Jagan. "He got too close to some special-class prisoners and used to interact with them regularly," the sources claimed.
Kesava Naidu had gone on leave for about three months from May 16 to August 8 citing personal reasons during which period deputy superintendent K Venkateshwara Reddy held charge as superintendent. Naidu resumed his duty on August 9. Naidu has
