New Delhi: Nobel laureate and Mayanmar's pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi was at her alma mater Lady Shri Ram College for Women on Friday. It is day four of her visit to India. Suu Kyi studied Political Science at the college in the 60s. Addressing college students, an emotional Suu Kyi said that she had never felt far away from India.
She also said that Indians took democracy for granted as they got it easily. "You (Indians) are taking your democratic rights for granted. It's when you don't have it you realise how much value it has," Suu Kyi said.
She also stressed on the importance of principles in politics. "Principles must always exist in politics. There are some who think it's naive. But if you compromise on your principles, then I think you better stop engaging in politics. Because unprincipled politics is the most dangerous thing in the world," Suu Kyi said.
