Antony to hold meeting to review coastal security New Delhi: Against the backdrop of merchant vessel MV Pavit running aground off the Mumbai coast, Defence Minister AK Antony will hold a meeting of senior Navy, Coast Guard and Defence Ministry officials on Wednesday to review the coastal security. The meeting will take stock of the coastal security in the eastern as well as the western coastline, Defence Ministry officials said.

Following the incident of MV Pavit, the Ministry had asked the Navy and Coast Guard to submit a report as to how the abandoned ship entered Indian waters undetected.

Other naval authorities were also asked to submit report on the incident.

The Panama-flag vessel started to drift towards Mumbai coast after its engines failed a month ago near the coast of Oman, leading to flooding of its engine room....more
