New Delhi: The Special Investigation Team probing the violence that occurred at the Maruti plant in Manesar on July 18, 2012, has said that the violence was not instigated from outside. The SIT report says the violence resulted from internal issues between the company management and workers.
The Haryana police has framed charges against 145 people after questioning 300 witnesses. A senior manager had died after workers had gone on a rampage. The company had claimed that the violence had been orchestrated from outside.
The Haryana government had formed an SIY to go into the root cause that led to the violence. The report prepared by the SIT goes to over 3,000 pages. The big question now is as to what will Maruti Suzuki do? The company has laid off over 540 workers based on their internal probe, but officials maintain that in the internal probe and the SIT probe of the Gurgaon police, the objectives are different, so there is no question of taking back those workers even though 145 workers have been named in the SIT probe.
The company declared a lockout at the plant on July 21 and was lifted on August 21. During the lockout the overall production loss was pegged at around Rs 1,400 crore. Following the incident, MSI had also decided to terminate services of 500 permanent workers, who were allegedly found to be involved in violence inside the plant....
