
Bangalore: The state prisons department, which has chalked out several projects to improve skills of the jail inmates, has now come up with the idea of marketing the merchandise produced by jail inmates. The department is working towards making the project, soon a reality. According to the officials, the best quality fabric will be used for the products, but the prices will be less compared to any international brand.
We have done a research to know how the garment industry functions. Based on that, we have planned the entire project in accordance with our requirements. There are a few people who have been trained in tailoring by the experts. They too have shown interest in the project and are keen to work on it, the officials said.
We are in talks with a Surat-based company which supplies fabrics. We are not going to compromise on the quality of the fabric and the material will be on a par with any other international brands. We are planning to buy the best quality threads, collars and buttons which add to the look of the garment, the official explained.
However, they have not yet decided the price of the products, but claim it would be reasonable and cheaper compared to the existing brands.
