Mohali to get seven new sports stadiums

Mohali: Known so far for the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium, Mohali is all set to get seven new sports stadia next month.

"Mohali is all set to create a new distinction in the country with largest number of International sports stadiums per capita population with the completion of seven sports stadiums by June this year. The stadiums would be inaugurated on a single day that would also mark the inauguration of three-nation hockey tournament," a Punjab sports department spokesman said here on Friday.

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who inspected the stadiums here Friday, said the aim was to make Mohali a sports hub of the country. During his visit, Badal asked the planners to create spectator galleries and ensure lighting facilities as per the Olympic specifications for day and night performances. He said that adequate parking space should be provided for people coming to the stadiums.

The new stadiums will include one for hockey, athletics, indoor games, swimming and other games....more
