Kolkata 3rd most unsafe city preceded by Delhi, Bangalore: Crime data Kolkata: New data with the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) shows West Bengal has the highest incidence of crimes against women. The data shows that 30,942 incidents of crime against women were reported in the state - the highest in the country.

According to the data, Kolkata is the third most unsafe city, preceded by Delhi and Bangalore.

There is a caveat here. The data pertains to 2012 and accounts only for cases that were registered. More than 2,000 cases of rape were registered in the year in West Bengal.

The West Bengal government for its part has contested the report saying that the numbers are misleading, and do not take into account the fact that the rate of crimes has declined....more
