National Games come to a glittering end

Ranchi: Thousands watched the glittering closing ceremony of the 34th National Games at the Birsa Munda Athletic Stadium here. The 35,000-capacity venue was jam packed.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda said that with the successful holding of the Games, the state has proved that it too can match the Commonwealth Games.

The infrastructure created for the National Games at the Mega Sports Complex at Hotwar, Ranchi is at par with the best in the country. This was duly acknowledged by visiting officials and the participating players, Munda said.

Munda added that all efforts would be made to utilise the infrastructure for promoting sports as well as convert it to a Sports University....more

Haryana wins first gold at National Games

Ranchi: The sporting events at 34th National Games got off to a flying start here on Sunday, with Haryana's Sandeep Kundu being the first gold medallist of the event. He bagged the Taekwondo gold in the over 87 kg category. Jharkhand women also bagged two golds in the under 67 kg category (Sonam Rajput) and over 73 kg category (K. Srilakshmi). Priti Kumari settled for bronze in the under 46...

Grand start to 34th National Games

Ranchi: The 34th National Games got off to a spectacular start at the Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium Saturday evening in Jharkhand's capital Ranchi.
