Nitish says JD(U)-BJP ties untenable; Gadkari meets Sharad Yadav New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar is keeping the guessing game going with sources claiming he has told the BJP that Narendra Modi's elevation has made their alliance untenable. Keen to defuse the crisis, the BJP on Thursday rushed Nitin Gadkari to JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav for discussions.

After meeting Gadkari, Sharad Yadav said that he is trying to mend ties with the BJP. "The alliance is there. We are trying to mend the ties. Not me but (West Bengal Chief Minister) Mamata Banerjee had spoken about the Federal Front. I won't say anything on this issue," said Yadav.

The 17-year-old BJP-JD(U) alliance is on the verge of a breakdown after Modi's elevation to election panel chief in the Goa National Executive. However, BJP President Rajnath Singh said he is trying that the alliance with the JD(U) remains. "Our attempt is to keep the alliance with JD(U) intact and make relations better," said Rajnath.

Sources said that Nitish has conveyed to the BJP leadership that he is left with no option but to leave the NDA. The Bihar Chief Minister is reportedly firm on his stand despite calls from BJP top brass....more
