New Delhi: In a huge blow for former Karnataka Chief Justice and Sikkim Chief Justice P D Dinakaran, the Supreme Court on Tuesday lifted the stay on proceedings against him by a Rajya Sabha-appointed panel.
The Supreme Court said that a new panel will now be set up to look into charges against Dinakaran. The court also observed that Dinakaran's petition was motivated to delay impeachment proceedings.
It also removed senior advocate PP Rao as member of the committee looking into the case, while requesting the Rajya Sabha Chairman to appoint another jurist in place of Rao. The charges of bias were leveled against Rao by Dinakaran.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari had in January 2010 constituted the three-member panel to examine the 12 charges framed in the notice of motion adopted by the House....
