New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begun its meeting over the fate of four cricketers accused of spot-fixing. The board's working committee began its proceedings at 11 am Sunday in Chennai.
Three current Rajasthan Royals players - S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila, Ankeet Chavan - and one former Rajasthan player Amit Singh have been implicated in spot-fixing by the Delhi Police, and CNN-IBN sources understand that the Indian cricket board may hand life bans to these cricketers.
According to reports, Rajasthan Royals' chairman and manager have also been invited to the meeting. Sreesanth, Chandila and Chavan have reportedly confessed to spot-fixing in the ongoing sixth edition and speculation is rife that the BCCI has made up its mind to punish them severely.
The Indian board is also looking at starting criminal proceedings against the players. Also, the ICC Anti-Corruption and Security Unit - in charge of vigilance and anti-corruption procedures in the IPL - is likely to be given the boot on account of having failed to rein in corruption in cricket....
