Govt withdraws award from Rohtak shelter owner Chandigarh: The Haryana government on Sunday withdrew the Indira Gandhi Mahila Shakti award given to Jaswanti Devi, the owner of the controversial shelter home at Rohtak where many women and children inmates were abused and her membership from the juvenile justice panel has also been cancelled.

The state government has also suspended Jaswanti Devi's brother from the education department.

The state health department has been ordered to carry out medical examination of inmates of all shelter home across Haryana after four more shelters across the state came under the government's scanner. In fact the shelter where the rescued girls were sent is among them.

Biometric data of children and inmates will be gathered and all the state NGOs and shelter homes have been asked to register with government compulsorily by June 20....more
