UPSC second topper fired by social service Chandigarh: With happiness writ large on her face Rukmani Riar has realised what she had set out to achieve. Having completed her post-graduation in social entrepreneurship in 2010 and winning a gold medal from The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai she wanted to carry out social service. Her father BS Riar, a lawyer in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, suggested that she should try the civil services if she wanted to make a mark at helping society.

She has now done just that. Rukmani Riar has secured the second rank in the Civil Services Examination in her first attempt. The first position in the civil services exam has gone to Shena Aggarwal of Yamunanagar in Haryana.

The final results of the CSE 2011 declared by the Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) on Friday, May 04, 2012 show that 6 out of the top 25 candidates are female.
