WB: Child rights panel seeks report on student's death Kolkata: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has sought a report from West Bengal officials on the death of an eight-year-old student after he was allegedly assaulted by his teacher in class. The commission took up the matter after a report on CNN-IBN.

The NCPCR has asked the South 24 Parganas district administration for a detailed report on the circumstances around the student's death.

The eight-year-old, a student of Nirdeshkhali school in Basanti, was allegedly slapped by his teacher and his head was banged against the wall several times on May 15. The teacher had found the boy playing in the class and throwing school bags around.

The student reportedly suffered severe brain hemorrhage from the brutal assault. The teacher, Chompa Mondal, was arrested after the boy's parents and relatives protested against the school and district administration....more
