Bangalore: Citing inordinate delay in the trial of the disproportionate asset case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, former Advocate General BV Acharya on Tuesday resigned as Special Public Prosecutor in the case.
He submitted his resignation letter to the Principal Secretary, Home Department, citing inordinate delay in the trial, which he said had caused a lot of strain and also various attempts to dislodge him from the post which had "hurt him to no end".
"I feel very happy and relieved that I am free from all responsibilities today," Acharya, a distinguished member of the Central Law Commission, told PTI.
"I accepted this assignment (SPP) seven years ago. I was hoping the case will be over in almost six months or almost one year. But even after seven years there is a long way to go before the trial is completed"....more
