Delay and negligence by police: NCW on Guwahati New Delhi: A National Commission for Women (NCW) team which visited Guwahati to probe the molestation of a 17-year-old girl has blamed the police in its report for reacting late and being negligent to the incident, sources said.

Meanwhile, a sub-inspector was suspended on Sunday for failing to act swiftly. The role of the TV reporter who was covering the incident is also under the scanner. Activists have accused him of instigating the mob and he has resigned to ensure a free trial. Three more suspects have been arrested in the case, taking the total number to 7.

Expressing deep concern over the "shameful" act of molestation of a teenager in Guwahati openly, NCW Chairperson Mamta Sharma has said here "the report by the NCW members would be submitted on Monday to the commission".

Action would be taken against the culprits within 10 days of the submission of the report, she told reporters....more
