
New Delhi: The NDA's Presidential candidate PA Sangma said on Thursday that he was grateful to the BJP, the BJD and other coalition allies for their support to him. Addressing a press conference, the former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader said that his nomination, to be filed today, would be sponsored by the Tribal Forum of India, nominated by the Biju Janata Dal and backed by the BJP and other NDA allies.
He further said, "On May 9, the Tribal Forum of India met under the leadership of Arvind Netam. It was unanimously decided to appeal to all political parties to consider a tribal candidate for the post of President. We sought an appointment to meet Sonia Gandhi. We were asked to wait at the Central Hall consecutively for three days. We could not get an appointment. We then met other leaders."
He also said that he had met Trinamool Congress chief and key UPA ally Mamata Banerjee for her support, adding that it went "very well".
