
United Nations: The UN secretary-general has appealed for a massive increase in funds for programs to stop the global pandemic of violence against women, saying the UN received more 2,500 applications this year requesting nearly $ 1.2 billion.
Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday said that over 15 years, the UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women has delivered grants worth $ 77 million to 339 initiatives in 126 countries, "but demand continues to outstrip resources."
At the UN commemoration of The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the secretary-general appealed to governments and other donors to help the UN meet "this vast unmet need."
