Will Cong sub-quota politics work in the LS polls? New Delhi: It's a blow which the government was quick to recover from. Less than 24 hours after Andhra Pradesh High Court struck down the sub-quota for minorities, the government is adamant to pursue it.

The government has proposed creation of a 4.5 per cent sub-quota for notified minority groups out of the 27 per cent reservation meant for OBCs - a move which the Opposition says smacks of votebank politics.

Law Minister Salman Khurshid first proposed the sub-quotas for Muslims during the UP Assembly elections, and that too at his constituency in Farukhabad.

He was criticised for the timing of the proposal, and in fact, the Election Commission slapped a notice on him for it....more
