
New Delhi: Cobras and rattlesnakes at the Games Village had created quite a stir among the CWG organisers. These snakes had kept the Commonwealth Games officials on toes as frequent sights of the reptiles at the Games Village have been causing a scare among the Games organisers and the athletes. But thanks to Wildlife SOS, these snakes have been rescued well in time ensuring the safety of both the players and the snakes.
Kartick Satyanarayan, Co-Founder, Wildlife SOS said, “Till date we found six snakes from the Games venues. They are mostly near Gate number 1, 2 and 3 of CWG Village.
Wildlife SOS has also set up a hot-line number exclusively for the Commonwealth Games. Once the snakes are rescued, they are examined to check if they are fit to be released into the wild. They’ve found venomous snakes like cobras, or harmless ones like the wolf snake. However, the question remains, why are the snakes surfacing at the Games Village.
Satyanarayan said, “There have also been lot of construction and disturbances. So when you turn around the soil so much you are bound to disturb the reptiles as a result of which they come out.”...
