Oscars Guide 2013: The best and worst of 'Best Picture' nomination

Of the nine films nominated in the Best Picture category, here is why you should watch some and give the others a pass. A favourite this awards season, Ben Affleck's 'Argo' is just the kind of movie that is needed in this day and age. Based on a true incident when six Americans were miraculously rescued by CIA from Iran during the peak of Iran hostage crisis, 'Argo' gives an amazing glimpse of a society that can work towards if everyone is willing to give it a shot. David O'Rusell's 'Silver Lining Playbook' seems like an unlikely choice in the Best Film nomination list. While other nominees are primarily drama, 'Silver Lining Playbook' is romantic-comedy. Many of the critics have panned the film and called it too superficial and frothy. Will it get an Oscar nod or not is something we will have to wait and watch but its lead actors- Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper are being considered as strong contenders to clinch the trophy of Best Actress and Best Actor category respectively.Katheryn Bigelow's 'Zero Dark Thrity' is based on how American troupes raided Osama Bin Laden's hideout in Pakistan and eventually killed the world's most dreaded terrorist. The war docu-drama is a very detailed film- something which is needed when one is making a film based on real life incident. The film is seen through the eyes of Maya (Jessica Chastain), a female CIA officer handling the case. It also gives out a powerful message of how a woman calls the shots in world full of men.

85th Academy Awards Luncheon: Meet the nominees

2013 Oscar nominees came together at the luncheon held in Beverly Hills. Anne Hathaway, Tom Hooper and Hugh Jackman spotted together at Oscars luncheon. Ang Lee, nominated for best picture and directing for 'Life of Pi,' arrives at the 85th Academy Awards Nominees Luncheon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Anne Hathaway is nominated for best actress in a supporting role for the musical 'Les Miserables'.

Hollywood Friday: 'Argo' and 'Premium Rush'

Two Hollywood films are being released on October 19 in India. Take a look...Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin and John Goodman are in the star cast of 'Argo', which is a thriller. Ben Affleck's 'Argo' is loosely based on Tony Mendez's mission of rescuing six Americans from Iran during the height of the 1979 hostage crisis.
