Army Chief General VK Singh says his date of birth is May 10, 1951, but the government has been adamant that his date of birth will remain May 10, 1950 which according to the General was erroneously filled in the UPSC form for the NDA exam.

The Indian Air Force is set to confer the honorary rank of a Group Captain on Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar in recognition of his outstanding achievements as a sportsperson. Traditionally, honorary ranks in the Air Force have been given to outstanding achievers. Past recipients include J R D Tata and Vijayapat Singhania who were both awarded the honorary ranks of Air Commodore. Tendulkar, however, would have no official responsibilities with the IAF. Will conferring Sachin with an IAF honorary rank inspire the country's youth to join the forces?

The Cabinet will meet today to decide on using the Army in anti-Naxal operations in the dense forests of Dantewada in Chhattisgarh. The Cabinet meet will also consider options of using Army choppers, training, demining support to neutralise the presence of Naxals in Dantewada and a possible use of 'strike power'. Following the Dantewada massacre, the Army Chief V K Singh said that the CRPF battalion's training in counter-insurgency does not match up to that of the Army's. The Air Force Chief, had said that air power cannot be used against Maoists even as the Home Minister said that the Government was looking at airpower as an option to combat the Maoist menace.
