Yamuna level set to rise over 207 metres, highest in 35 years New Delhi: The Water level in the Yamuna is set to rise over 207 metres - the highest the river has touched in 35 years. More than 1,500 people have been evacuated from low-lying areas in east Delhi like Usmanpur, Yamuna Bazar, Bhajanpura and Shastri Park and relief camps have been set up for their shelter.

The Yamuna crossed the danger mark in Delhi on Tuesday and the water level is expected to rise further on Wednesday when the water from the Hathnikund barrage reaches the capital.

Haryana has released over nine lakh cusecs of water into the river in the last two days. "The water level of Yamuna crossed the danger mark of 204.83 metres at 7 AM and it reached 205.58 metres at 7 pm," officials in the Flood Control and Irrigation department said. They said the water level would touch 207.05 meter around noon on Wednesday.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the situation was under control and there was no need to panic as the administration was prepared to face any eventuality.
