Law and order has improved in Assam, says Tarun Gogoi

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said at Guwahati on Saturday there was considerable improvement in the law and order situation in the state over the past 12 years. He added that the government has been able to bring almost all insurgent outfits to the negotiating table.

Gogoi completed his second year as chief minister for the third consecutive term Saturday.

He said that while 412 civilians were killed due to insurgency-related incidents in 2000 in Assam, only 39 civilians were killed in the state due to insurgency in 2012.

"Only eight people have been killed in insurgency-related incidents in Assam this year. The number of civilian causality has reduced, which this is a good sign," Gogoi said, and added that the development works initiated by the government helped containing insurgency....more
