
Guwahati: Five years after the deadliest terror attack in Assam that killed 100 and injured 300 the main accused National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) chairman Ranjan Daimary has got bail. Daimary was handed over by Bangladesh in 2010.
The CBI did not oppose bail for Daimary. A clear hint that he may be on board for the ongoing peace process with militant outfit NDFB. "Not a question of supporting or opposing bail plea. It is purely part of judicial procedure," CBI Counsel Sanjeev K Lahkar said.
"There are five more cases. We are expecting that he will get bail from honourable court. Then he, I think, will proceed for peace talks as per government initiative. Interlocutor is coming. He has met him 14 times in jail," said Manas Sarania, Daimary's Lawyer.
But any such peace would bring little solace to those who still remember the October morning which saw the deadliest militant attack in Northeast India. Nine serial blasts took place that morning....
