
Bangalore: A mock fire drill by the police turned deadly in Bangalore after a 25-year-old woman died while climbing down a rope.
The cell phone video was meant to show off how courageous Nalina is, but within minutes of taking the leap, Nalina was dead. It was a mock fire drill to teach safety techniques to the 1,200 employees of Bombay Rayon, a garment factory in Bangalore and Nalina volunteered to jump off the third floor only to find the rope snapping. Shocked colleagues and fire police officials watched as she fell to her death.
DG Fire Services AR Infant said, "Sometimes even the brand new ropes snaps if the knots come away."
But these explanations are little comfort to Nalina's shattered family. Even as her mother remains inconsolable, other friends speak out....
