Lalit Modi says rules are being bent for some owners New Delhi: Former Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi, while defending himself and his tenure in the IPL, said he had information about match-fixing and spot-fixing in the sport and that he had told CEO Sundar Raman about irregularities in IPL. He also said he was attacked and criticised for trying to bring "accountability and transparency" in IPL.

"There should be zero-tolerance against incidents such as spot-fixing and there should be accountability in the sport despite big money being involved," Modi said, slamming the current management of the League. Three Rajasthan Royals bowlers S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan were arrested on Thursday on charges of spot fixing.

Modi, who was incharge of IPL in 2008, 2009 and 2010 and was instrumental in launching IPL, said during his tenure as the chief, all precautions were taken against match-fixing and spot fixing and that everyone always "operated as a family". "I was always saying this was waiting to happen. I believe that there is more to this controversy. There is credibility crisis in the organisation," Modi said.

He also alleged that IPL rules are being destroyed to benefit some owners. He defended himself and said he was "the target of underworld because I had zero tolerance towards match-fixing"....more
