Champions Trophy Hockey

Hockey: Australia win 5th consecutive Champions Trophy Melbourne: Keiran Govers scored five minutes into extra time to give Australia a 2-1 win over the Netherlands on Sunday, giving the Kookaburras' a fifth consecutive Champion Trophy men's field hockey title. Sander Baart gave the Dutch a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute before Russell Ford equalised for Australia in the 31st.

Australia overcame an inspiring performance from Dutch goalkeeper Jaap Stockmann, who made five superb second-half stops to deny Australia in regular time.

"It was pretty important for me," Australia veteran Jamie Dwyer said of winning the tournament after losing in the Olympic semifinals to eventual gold medalist Germany in August. I guess after London we had a few doubts going through our heads, both individually and as a team. To come out, and play like we did this week and not give the opposition many chances, and enjoy it as well, it's great."

Pakistan claimed the bronze medal with a 3-2 win over India, thanks to Muhammad Ateeq's drag flick with five minutes left. India, which scored first, missed a chance to claim only their second Champions Trophy medal and the first since 1982....more
