Bayern Munich barely staved off an improbable comeback on Wednesday, eliminating Arsenal from the Champions League despite a 2-0 loss at home. Olivier Giroud gave Arsenal an early lead in the third minute. Walcott raced into the penalty area and sent a hard, low ball through the legs of Dante and across the goal for Giroud to drive it into the roof of the net. The first goal made for a nervous evening for the home crowd, although Bayern gradually took control of the game and didn't allow any more dangerous chances for the rest of the half.

Lionel Messi started the comeback with two first-half goals, and Barcelona overwhelmed AC Milan 4-0 on Tuesday night to reach their sixth straight Champions League quarter-final. Messi opened the scoring in the fifth minute collecting the ball on the edge of the area before curling a wonderful left-foot curler past Christian Abbiati. The Argentine again found net in the 40th minute after Andres Iniesta handed Messi the ball on the edge of the area and the little man needed half a yard to fire his left-foot shot.

Cristiano Ronaldo winner helped Real Madrid beat Man United 2-1 in the second leg of Champions League as they advanced to quarter-finals on 3-2 goal aggregate. Ronaldo scored the winner in the 69th minute slotting home a low cross from Gonzalo Higuain. He did not celebrate and instead held his hands up almost apologetically. In the 67th minute, Luka Modric drove a powerful shot from 20-yards to bring Real Madrid on level terms. Modric had came in as a substitute for Alvaro Arbeloa only seven minutes earlier.
