Uttarakhand: CM briefs on the situation; says no resource crunch

Hardwar: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on Wednesday reiterated that the administration was facing no shortage of funds or resources in carrying out relief and rescue operations in the flood and landslide ravaged areas of the state.

Even as the death toll crossed 100, Bahuguna said that he was not in a situation to give the exact estimate of the people killed in the calamity.

Speaking on the wide scale damages in the state as a result of torrential rains, massive landslides and flash floods, Bahuguna said that pilgrimage for the Chardham Yatra will take over a year to commence again, adding that the path leading to Kedarnath shrine has been reduced to debris.

The Chief Minister claimed that the devastation could have been much worse had the Tehri dam on the Bhagirathi river in Uttarakhand not been there. He said the dam has helped control the flood water, which could have washed away western Uttar Pradesh....more
