Delhi govt sets up committee to curb child trafficking New Delhi: The Delhi government on Wednesday set up a high-level committee to curb child trafficking in the state. An announcement in this regard was made by Kiran Walia, Minister of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development and Education, at a meeting convened by her at the Delhi Secretariat in which several other steps to curb the menace were also made public.

Walia said immediate registration of an FIR in the cases of kidnapping and child abuse of the trafficked should be ensured apart from sensitising officials, including lower functionaries at the police station level about child trafficking and cases of child abuse.

She also stressed upon the need for deploying at least one sub-inspector level police officer exclusively for dealing with juvenile crime cases in each police station on 24x7 basis. The minister said a list of senior officers of Delhi Police will be made public who could be contacted in case of non-cooperative attitude of local police in cases of child trafficking.

She said Crime Branch will forward to Delhi government monthly report of child trafficking cases containing full details about FIR which would include age-wise and area-wise particulars of the accused, status of the investigation and its outcome....more
