Delegation of United States Congressmen leaves for home

New Delhi: The delegation of US Congressman and business leaders visiting the country left for home on Sunday after a 10-day trip of India. "After visiting Golden Temple and Jallianwala bagh in Amritsar, the visiting US delegates were accorded a warm adieu," BJP national committee member and convenor of BJP overseas affairs Vijay Jolly said in a release.

During the visit, US Congressman Aaron Schock from Illinois, Cathy McMorris Rodgers from Washington and Cynthia M Lummis from Wyoming - along with seven US business leaders - met Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and invited him to visit America, Jolly said.

"A video live conference between Modi and US former speaker Newton Leroy 'Newt' Gingrich was also organised. In Karnataka, they had a meeting with Governor HR Bhardwaj and Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar," Jolly said.

The Congress party has alleged that the US Congressmen had been paid $18,000 (Rs.9 lakh) to visit Modi, a claim the BJP denied. ...more
