The Rs 2,999 Datawind UbiSlate tablet

Datawind, the company that made headlines with the Aakash tablet, has now announced the launch of two new 7-inch low-cost tablets - the UbiSlate 7 and UbiSlate 7C with prices starting at Rs 2999 for the 7 . The 7c model will cost Rs 3,999.

Both the tablets come with similar specifications, only that the UbiSlate 7c comes with 4GB of internal flash memory compared to 2GB in the UbiSlate 7, and the 7c has a capacitive touchscreen while the 7 has a resistive screen.

Both the 7-inch tablets are powered by Cortex A8 800 Mhz processor, 256MB RAM and have an 800x480 pixel touchscreen.

Micromax Funbook: Rs 6,499 Android ICS tablet

Micromax has launched a tablet - Funbook - which runs Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system.

The device has a 7-inch (17.78 cm) multi-touch capacitive touchscreen, which has a resolution of 800x480 pixels. It is powered by a 1.22GHz Cortex A8 processor.

Deepak Mehrotra, CEO, Micromax Informatics Limited has claimed it to be the slimmest tablet in India. Besides, it is touted to be the first made in India tablet.

Numerous gadgets are launched every year ranging from high-end to low-cost. But in the price sensitive Indian market, it is important to take a note of feature rich yet affordable gadgets launched this year. Here is a list of such gadgets launched in 2011, and cost below Rs 5K.

The much awaited India's ultra-low-cost tablet - Aakash - has been launched this year. Powered by Android 2.2 (Froyo) OS, the 7-inch tablet has a resistive touch screen. The tablet weighs 350g and has 256 MB of RAM. The device has a Arm11 – 366Mhz microprocessor and a 2100mAh battery. It supports only Wi-Fi network. However the upgraded version of Aakash, called the Ubislate 7, is scheduled to be launched late January. It has a Cortex A8 – 700 Mhz processor compared to the 366 MHz processor in Aakash. Running Android 2.3 OS, it will include a 3200 mAh battery. The device will support both WiFi and GPRS networks. Price: Rs 2,500 for Aakash and Rs 2,999 for the Ubislate 7

Vodafone India has launched a new 3G phone - Vodafone Smart, which runs Android 2.2.1 operating system. Weighing 104g, the phone has a 2.8-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen and a 2 mega pixel camera. Powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon S1 processor, the phone has 130 MB of storage space. Its memory can be expoandable up to 32 GB. Reportedly, users will get a 2GB memory card free when buying the handset. Other features include Google Search, Maps, Gmail, Google Talk, Vodafone music, digital compass, video recording and MP4/3GP playback. Price: Rs 4,995

Chulbul Pandey may have almost become his alter ego, but star performer Salman Khan is looking to continue his winning streak in the skin of Lovely Singh in his romantic comedy Bodyguard that hits theatres on Eid-ul-Fitr on August 31. We take a look at the versions of Hollywood's cult film 'Bodyguard' remade in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi.

The Malayalam version of Bodyguard was released on January 23, 2010. It has been remade into Tamil as Kaavalan with Vijay and Asin.

The Telugu version has Daggubati Venkatesh and Trisha Krishnan and is titled as Ganga.
