New Delhi: Suspended Rajasthan Royals cricketer Ajit Chandila has been sent to a three-day police custody by a Delhi court in the IPL spot-fixing case. Chandila's interrogation will now take place under the provisions of MCOCA in the case.
The police told the court that the questioning of bookies Ramesh Vyas, Sunil Bhatia and Feroze Ansari has revealed more information about the player-bookie nexus. The Delhi Police had opposed bail for Chandila on Friday, saying he is a "key conspirator" in the fixing case and acted at the behest of a syndicate run by underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
The Delhi Police told the court on Friday that Chandila was directly in contact with bookies and players and had received money to perform as per their directions. "It is reiterated that Ajit Chandila has emerged as the key conspirator in the entire chain acting on behalf of the syndicate... A huge amount of money has also been recovered at his instance, which was received from various fixers," the police said.
The court has also directed the police to file its reply on the bail application of Ramesh Vyas, an alleged bookie. Vyas had moved the court seeking relief after being remanded in judicial custody till June 18. ...
