Deoria: A former village head and panchayat member was shot dead on Thursday by some unidentified persons in Patharhut area in Deoria police said.
Arun Singh (25) was shot dead in Gouri Bazar village on Thursday evening by some persons due to old enmity, they said. Tension prevailed in area as supporters of Singh set on fire few houses of the rival group, sources said.
Heavy police force has been deployed in area as the situation continues to remain tense. The matter was being probed, police said.
