Direct Cash Transfer

DBT will be rolled out by end of FY14: Chidambaram New Delhi: A day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh admitted there were problems in the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme, Finance Minister P Chidambaram has come out with a clarification saying the government is trying to resolve some issues.

The scheme will be rolled out across the country by the end of the financial year 2013-14, Chidambaram further added. On Friday, the Prime Minister had said the exercise of the scheme, which was rolled out in January 2013, has revealed poor nature of tracking and monitoring systems in departments.

"We need to change the way we transact business, the way we release funds, the way we track funds and the information we have on beneficiaries. I hope due attention will be paid to these aspects as we move forward in implementing the programme," Manmohan Singh had further said.
