Smooth ride for Delhiites on Day 1 of CWG lanes New Delhi: Monday was the first day of exclusive Commonwealth Games lanes, but Delhiites bracing for the worst had a surprisingly decent ride with no major traffic jams.

Delhiites woke up to a Monday morning getting the first taste of restrictions on the streets ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

First day when the special lanes marked for athletes and dignitaries participating in the Commonwealth Games were closed off for the general public. Barring a few offenders, most Delhiites stuck to their lanes.

“People want the Games to be successful and obviously there is a Rs 2,000 fine,” said a motorist. Another said: “Today few people are commuting via their cars. Then there is Metro also.”...more
