Big B's shocked disbelief after early review of his role in 'Gatsby'

This is what the Variety magazine had to say of Amitabh Bachchan's role in 'The Great Gatsby': "By far the liveliest work in the film comes from two actors with only a few minutes of screen time between them: the lithe, long-limbed newcomer Elizabeth Debicki as gabby golf pro Jordan Baker, and, in a single scene that marks his belated Hollywood debut, Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan as the flamboyant Jewish 'gambler,' Meyer Wolfsheim."

An obviously flattered Bachchan posted on Facebook he was in "shocked disbelief". "No, no this cannot be true..!!!" he wrote.

It is hailed as "the great American novel," but so far 'The Great Gatsby' has defied attempts by some of Hollywood's top filmmakers to bring its lyrically romantic story and tragic characters to cinematic life.

One of the year's most anticipated films, 'The Great Gatsby' opens in US theaters on Friday and has been accorded the prestigious opening-night slot at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15. ...more
