New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday clarified why it is probing Intelligence Bureau Special Director Rajendra Kumar's role in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case. The agency publicly claimed that it has evidence which shows a senior IB officer colluded in the 2004 fake encounter by Gujarat Police.
Sources say the CBI has call detail records to prove Kumar's role in the alleged encounter. Sources say the evidence shows Kumar was aware that Ishrat and three others will be killed in a fake encounter.
The CBI probe is limited to the fake encounter, and not on whether the four people killed were indeed terrorists, add sources.
The clarification comes in the wake of IB officer's complain to the NSA on the agency's move. In fact, reports indicate Director of IB had met CBI Director Ranjit Sinha to voice his concern. The IB had also lodged a protest over Kumar's inclusion in the probe....
