Dharamsala: We had often seen Adam Gilchrist massacring the opposition bowlers and taking some stunning catches behind the wickets, but on Saturday we saw him in a different 'Avatar'. Playing his last IPL match, Gilchrist not only bowled for only the second time in his 17-year long career, but also picked up his only wicket off the first ball. And the reaction after the dismissal said it all, with Gilchrist erupting in his own style of Gangnam - a Gillynam.
The match was already over as Mumbai needed an improbable 51 runs off the last over chasing a massive 184 to win. And Gilchrist surprised one and all by bringing himself on. The 41-year-old Aussie veteran bowled once before in his career, sending in two overs for ten runs in a List A game for Young Aust v Leicestershire at Leicester in 1995.
Gilchrist tossed one up to Harbhajan Singh who could not control himself and swiped hard at it and was holed out at long on to Gurkeerat Singh, leaving Gilchrist and his team-mates amidst wild celebrations.
When asked about imitating Harbhajan, with Bhangnam, after picking up his wicket, Gilchrist said. "Harbhajan took my wicket many, many times. I just wanted to take his once and enjoy the feeling. The team played superbly as a unit. Many thanks to the crowd. They do not get a lot of matches to watch, but they supported us well."...
