New Delhi: YSR Congress President Jagan Reddy's judicial remand will end on Monday in the disproportionate assets case. Jagan will be produced before the CBI court through video conferencing.
The Supreme Court had earlier rejected Jagan's bail plea. "Jagan's release will hamper the probe in the case which is of high magnitude," said the court in its ruling. The apex court also said that "likelihood of tampering with evidence and influencing witnesses can't be ruled out on Jagan Mohan's release". The bail plea of Jagan Mohan was opposed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating the case. The SC directed the CBI to complete its probe within four months.
Jagan Mohan, who was arrested on May 27, 2012 by the CBI on corruption charges, is presently under judicial custody and is lodged at the Chanchalguda Central Prison in Hyderabad. Even in October 2012, the apex court had dismissed Reddy's bail plea in the case. While dismissing the bail application, the SC had said that the petitioner was open to renew his bail before the trial court "on completion of the investigation by CBI" on certain aspects.
The CBI had told the court that it would be filing a final chargesheet on Sandur Power, Bharati/Raghuram Cements, Dalmia Cements, India Cements and Kolkata-based suitcase companies allegedly sending money into Reddy's companies including Lepakshi knowledge hub project and Indu Projects. The agency has filed several chargesheets against Jagan Mohan, an MP from Kadapa, and others. It has
